![]() ![]() We had a crap ton of ideas, so not that we’re short of things to work with. It was a bit tricky to get together and really kind of talk about what we wanted it to be. One challenge that we had with it was a normal routine and rhythm. ![]() We lost a third of our recording and writing time. Yeah, just through a range of things – we kind of got crunched down to basically two weeks. We set ourselves about three weeks to do everything, including pre-production, writing, and recording. A lot of the lyrics particularly came out of that real sense of immediacy and pressure. That time crunch has been a big part of the EP, not just in how the songs have come about. There were also a couple of things I needed to tidy up after the fact. Some accidental things happened during our time in the studio. So, we could have it all ready to go for a January, February sort of release. We recorded in September last year, and the initial goal was to have it all finished and done for November. Like how is that kind of like under pressure, like recording stuff in a short time frame? I would imagine recording in such a condensed period would be a unique experience. With this EP, the band recorded it during a ten-day period. With Hands Like Houses, they got through the disagreements I spoke to lead singer Trenton Woodley about the fixed accents to which they made the EP under, what the band has learned about themselves because of it, and looking forward to what the future can bring. Their latest offering, a self-titled EP, was recorded in ten days – placing creative restraints on the band, but also pushing them to make some of their most honest work yet.įor some, being in a high-pressure system would be a reason to dissipate. Hands Like Houses have been a unit for over 11 years with four albums and now, three EPs under their belt. ![]() You find fresh ways to thrive on the other side of comfort. Find new scenery, buy a new chair or a desk, learn something different. Each track kind of blends into the next and there’s no clear change of pace, save a few moments, and it really brings the album down. When you do anything for a long time, sometimes you need to shake the bee’s nest. The album has some sour moments and is overall nothing too special. The album has a lot of sweet endings to songs, such as the end of ‘ Stillwater’, but that doesn’t stop ‘ Momentary’ from being a single delay pedal away from being the intro riff for a U2 song.ĭissonants isn’t the strongest album of the year, but it’s still a good one. The song ‘ Degrees Of Separation’ is the final highlight that gives the album one more big moment, along with a sweet message, but other than that, there’s nothing much else to the album. ‘ Motion Sickness’ edges the Thirty Seconds To Mars/ Bring Me The Horizon influences that found it’s way on the latter’s That’s The Spirit, albeit, in a less cohesive way. Most of the album gets pretty bland as isn’t far too interesting. These two songs are on a whole different level of the album, while most of the other tracks stand at a pretty level tone. ‘ Glasshouse’ is similar in its hugeness, having a massive breakdown and powerful vocals. A thriving djenty section comes in near the end and brings the song to its epic climax. The lead guitar work is pretty good in this song nothing too flashy, but adds a strong melodic element to the song that intensifies it. Opener track ‘ I Am’ opens the album strongly, having strong choruses with lots of great background details that make them even more monumental. Hands Like Houses blend a variety of sounds into their third record. Hands Like Houses find themselves in the middle of this spectrum with their new album, Dissonants. Other times, you find your shot in the dark and get a pleasant itch in, relieving you from your struggle. Bands who perform in this genre are face being a rash: sometimes so unbearable, you have to scratch the painful irritation. Post-Hardcore over the last few years, with its combination of electronica and emo metal, has quickly taken over the music scene. ![]()
